'Can Freeze Drying your Food really make food last 25 years? * Here at BlvdHome we can not 100% confirm that is the case but from what we have been told food that has all the moisture taken out of it should last a very long time. The questions we cover in this video are critical for those of you who are thinking about purchasing your own Freeze Dryer. Here are the questions we address in this video: 1. What is a Freeze Dryer and how does freeze drying work? * The freeze dryer vacuums out all the moisture in the food making it dry. This is much different from dehydrating food. You can reconstitute freeze dried food simply by adding water. 2. When purchasing a Harvest Right Freeze Dryer: What is included in that purchase? * You received the freeze dryer and a number of trays. Depending on the model you purchase. Includes the vacuum pump, bag sealer, and food bags as well as many instructional papers that help you learn all about how it works. 3. What are the benefits of freeze dried food? * Freeze dried food lasts for up to 25 years if stored correctly. It also keeps 97% of its nutritional value, keeps the food in the same shape and color. 4. What types of food can be freeze dried. * Pretty much almost all foods. More fatty foods do not freeze dry very good, chocolate also does not freeze dry very well. However, if you go to the harvest right website they list 100+ foods that you can freeze dry. Biggest Challenges with a freeze dryer? * There is a learning curve but stay with it and you find out that it ends up being pretty simple and the machine does most the work. Its important to take notes while you try different foods. The biggest challenge for many people is understanding the correct amount of water to add back into the foods. Good think you can also eat the food before it is reconstituted. 6. What are important things to consider when your looking at purchasing a Harvest Right Freezer? * First you need to know where you are going to place the machine. It is best to stay in a temperature controlled area. The machine is also quite large and requires it to sit on top of something. It also has a pump that needs to be located next to the freeze dryer. So think about a nice table or counter that it can be placed on top of. Harvest Right also makes a few different sizes. which each come with positives and negatives. 7. How do you prepare your food to be ready to freeze dried. * Food does not need to be prepped in any specific way. You do need to make sure not to over load the freeze dryer. 8. How does your food rehydrate? * Many of the foods you freeze dry you will not rehydrate. One specific item you will rehydrate is raw meats. It is important to measure the weight the those foods before you freeze dry them so that you will know how much moisture is taken out of them so that when you re hydrate them with water you add that amount of water back to them. 9.
