I grew up thinking that if I went too many hours between meals my body would go into starvation mode and that would slow down my metabolism which would make me gain weight. I thought that in order to lose weight, I needed to exercise, track calories, eat 6 small meals a day to boost my metabolism, eat low fat and low carb foods. But this week I tried intermittent fasting and it changed everything I thought I knew about loosing weight. I did the opposite of everything I thought I needed to do to lose weight, I didn’t workout, didn’t track calories, went 25 hours without food, had carbs, fatty foods, sweets and I still lost weight. I lost more weight this week than I’ve ever lost in a week while tracking calories and working out What Is intermittent fasting? In a nutshell: you Don\'t eat during certain hours of the day, it doesn’t have to be specific hours. You get to pick the times that best works with your lifestyle, and you can eat whatever you want as long as you fast for at least 12 hours.. or so are the claims. The longer you fast the more benefits. Our bodies store energy in 2 main forms, glycogen store which is a string of sugars, glucose molecules a form of carbohydrate and they’re mainly stored in our liver and muscles. Depending on our size and sex this storage will run our body for about 12 hours after a meal. When glycogen stores are depleted our body starts to use the second source of energy, fat. When we start using fat as fuel, fat molecules are broken down into fatty acids and they’re sent into the bloodstream and used up by different organs like the heart. the only problem is that our brain can’t absorb fatty acids. Our brain mainly runs on glucose so when the glycogen store is empty we have a big problem but the body\'s an incredible machine so what it does, it solves the problem by a processes called ketogenesis. The liver absorbs some of those fatty acids, breaks them into smaller molecules called ketones that can be used by the brain. I’m sure you’ve heard of the popular keto diet. There are a few ways to get to a state of ketosis and one of those is through intermittent fasting, the longer you fast the more benefits. I decided to try IF is because the idea of being able to eat anything I wanted and lose weight is a dream too good to be true. I also heard that you have more energy and you’re more alert so I gave it a try and this is what happened...'
