This is important, and it is certainly beneficial for our health to keep these organs healthy and working efficiently. The lungs are at times forgotten when it comes to cleansing. However, as you are probably already aware, the lungs are one of the most important and vital organs in our body. Each day, we take an average of 20,000 breaths, each of these controlled and powered by our lungs. Keeping our lungs working efficiently, clean and disease free is therefore incredibly important. Our diet and what we consume can play a huge role in the overall health of our lungs, along with not smoking, exercising and breathing in clean air. Here are some foods that will help to cleanse the lungs, and make sure they are working efficiently. Foods such as black beans, pistachios and seeds are helpful in cleansing your lungs since they are high in the mineral magnesium. Magnesium is specifically healthy for our lungs as it contributes to healthy lung function. They also provide healthy essential fatty acid which are beneficial for the lungs and our cardiovascular system overall. Pistachios also contain gamma-tocopherol, which is a type of vitamin E that increases the health of our lungs. Carrots are full of antioxidants. They are rich in vitamin A, vitamin C and lycopene. These antioxidants are great for our lungs and affect lung health while also lowering the chances of developing different types of lung disease. Grapefruit is not the most popular fruit, but when consumed, it has great health benefits for our lungs. This fruit contains a flavonoid called naringin, which may help to inhibit the activation of cancer causing enzymes. They also contain lycopene, a tremendous antioxidant for our lungs. It also contains many different lung supporting minerals and vitamins, and can help with the removal of carcinogens. This makes is an especially good source for those individuals cleansing the lungs after quitting smoking. Ginger’s anti-inflammatory properties are well known and established. These properties will help to cleanse the lungs and promote the elimination of unwanted pollutant from them. As well, consuming ginger raw or from a prepared ginger tea will help to remove toxins and pollutants from our respiratory tract, promoting the overall health of our lungs. Garlic is similar to ginger in that in has various anti-inflammatory properties. However, it also boasts high levels of allicin. These properties together will help to reduce inflammation and fight against infections. Garlic may also be effective at improving asthma since it contains natural compounds like vitamin C and allicin that neutralize free radicals and help produce lipid molecules that help to keep the air passages open. Lastly, turmeric is also great for our lungs. This spice has great anti-inflammatory properties and contains curcumin, which work together to cleanse the lungs and remove unwanted toxins from the body. Also, don’t underestimate the benefits of water for cleansing our lungs. It is not only an excellent source of hydration but also helps to accelerate the detoxification process.
