'If we have learned one thing these past weeks, it’s that names are important. They are important to our identity, they are important as sites of power struggles, they are important as signifiers of our culture, and they are important as brands. As a result, changing a name is a complex process that provokes strong reactions. Our community is experiencing this first hand right now since the announcement that we are dropping “Cass” from the business school’s name due to our former namesake’s historical links to slavery. As we contemplate the name change process ahead of us, we want to take a moment to pause and ask: What are the implications of changing a name? We have assembled a fantastic interdisciplinary group of experts to examine this question from a cultural, historical, organisational, branding, economic, and individual identity perspective. With Prof Derek Alderman (University of Tennessee), Prof Mary Ann Glynn (Boston College), Dr Marius Luedicke (Business School – formerly Cass), Prof Corrado Giulietti (University of Southampton), and Prof Simon Duncan (University of Bradford) Hosted by Prof Andre Spicer & Prof Caroline Wiertz (Business School - formerly Cass)'
