'What Zen Buddhism Can Teach You About Your Fitness Journey'

'In the video, I reveal a powerful concept from Zen Buddhism that will help you get more results in fitness and health. Summary of the video: The idea of Shoshin meaning \"beginner\'s mind\" is a very powerful concept in Zen Buddhism. It refers to having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying a subject, even when studying at an advanced level, just as a beginner in that subject would. The term is especially used in the study of Zen Buddhism and Japanese martial arts. Beginner\'s mind is a very powerful concept to beat our tendency of confirmation bias. In psychology and cognitive science, confirmation bias means that we will search for or interpret information in a way that confirms our preconceptions. This massively hinders our ability to learn new things because we\'re no longer open-minded and eager to learn new concepts. I\'ve fallen in this trap myself in my fitness and health journey which led me into a very long training plateau. To overcome the plateau in the gym I had to let go of the idea of being an expert. You could argue \"How didn\'t you know that your diet and workout plan wasn\'t good?\", and you\'d be right. But in that state when your ego is thinking that you know everything it\'s hard to let go of that. And that first step was very difficult. Because it meant I had to face the fact I don\'t know enough and the things that I do know aren\'t effective. However, once I opened my mind I was ready to learn new methods and listen to other expert\'s opinions. And not only that, I was learning lessons even from beginners around me. Now, I proactively seek to join activities that I don\'t know much about. This way I get to put myself into that beginner\'s mind more often and learn through failure.
