'FEB 16, 2021 after several snow storms here in the Mid South (far Southern Illinois, at the Kentucky state line) we had 7 to 8 inches of snow covering the ground here. I had a very nice fall food plot behind our house which was a mix of brassicas and a winter variety of winter wheat, winter rye, triticale\'s and oats. But since the snow has covered it all up I decided to plow some clearings of the food plot with my Kioti RX7320 utility tractor so that the deer, birds and turkey could access the food plot for some food. And of course, as is normal here, I will provide some follow up proof of just how the animals will gravitate to the new \'food plot clearings\' in the snow. The worst time for deer mortality (and probably other species as well, such as birds and turkey) is NOW... Late winter, when most of their food sources dry up, and snow covers the ground. So, in essence I am just \'re establishing\' a food source that the animals and deer can access easier without a bunch of snow blocking their access. Within minutes of making the new clearings you will see dozens of birds already accessing the new clearings, and within a day you will see deer browsing in the new food plot clearings as well as turkeys. Interestingly enough we have not seen turkey for several months here! Not until they found the newly opened up food plots! While this may not be totally scientific, I would say that it sure qualifies for some \'common sense,\' \'real world\' examples of simple ways to help out your local wildlife population during times of heavy snow.
