'In this week’s episode of Singapore Hawker Food, the SmallCityIsland Singapore food vlogger duo was at Marsiling Lane Food Centre in search of great halal Singapore hawker food there. Marsiling Lane Food Centre is well known to be a hawker centre that exudes the old school’s vibe. Having a row of hawker stalls dedicated to Malay hawker food at every Singapore hawker centre is a very common sight. However, you seldom find dishes such as Nasi Jenganan nor Lontong Kering at many of these hawker centres. Being at one end of Singapore, Marsiling Lane Food Centre is a hawker centre that is worth the trip if you are looking for vintage halal food like how the makciks of yesteryears would do it. Shop: Muslim Food Stall What we had: Nasi Jenganan Nasi Jenganan should be a part of Singapore Halal Food culinary history. This amazing Singapore hawker food is made with simple side dishes, which when combined as one, creates a comfortingly rich flavours that simply will satisfy your taste buds. Starting with the rich peanut sauce poured over blanched vegetables and accompanied by tempeh, bagedil and serondeng, it makes a masterpiece of a hearty meal. Shop: Selera Menanti What we had: Lontong Kering Seeing the makciks behind the counter, we knew that this will be a honest to goodness home cooked style of food that we will have. Looking at the dishes on display, immediately we knew we had to try the Lontong Kering. Lontong Kering is a dish made up of side dishes which is similar to those you would serve during Hari Raya. The soft and fluffy rice cakes, the samba goreng, serondeng and sambal tumis, simply screams Selamat Hari Raya into my mind. Shop: Mawar Fadirah What we had: Lontong One can’t help to notice the long queue forming at this stall. Like they say, if the queue is long the food is good. Is that the case? The Lontong we had is the classic Singapore Halal Food version which came with the creamy coconut gravy. Rice cakes bathed in the gravy and accompanied with serondeng and hard boiled egg in sambal tumis makes Lontong a hearty breakfast meal.
