'Science says eating just one meal per day can improve your health. Learn more at https://highintensityhealth.com/OMAD ----- Mouth taping is arguably the best under-recognized sleep tip yet! Give it a try and drop a comment below to let me know how it goes for you. I learned it from Dr. Mark Burhenne, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3lCxI75owQ -----------------------------------------Links Mentioned -------------------------------------- Best Mouth Tape Ever: https://amzn.to/2J0Lh6t Back-Up Mouth Tape: 3M Micropore Tape: http://amzn.to/2bZXauO *I like this one because it\'s wider Dr. Mark Burhenne\'s book about sleep-disordered breathing and sleep apnea: http://bit.ly/2cqti7E -----------------------------------------Key Takeaways-------------------------------------- 2:00 Why Breathing Through Your Mouth Can Decrease Sleep Quality If you\'re breathing through your mouth while you\'re sleeping, your tongue gets temporarily so relaxed during that deep REM sleep that it clogs your airway, your breathing tube and so then you can\'t breath. You\'re having a hypoxic event. This is creating free radical stress. This is creating cortisol and other hormones to be activated. You\'re having a mild inability to breath. I mean, come on, this is huge. All these problems stem from breathing through your mouth. You can balance your circadian rhythms. You can avoid caffeine. You can go to bed at the same time very night. You an meditate before bed. You can do all of the things that everyone recommends. Turn out all the lights, get morning sunlight to entrain your circadian rhythm but if you\'re breathing through your mouth while you\'re sleeping, you\'re going to have disordered sleep breathing. That\'s going to cause dysfunction in your whole metabolism and disrupt that REM sleep. 3:00 How Mouth Taping Boosts REM Sleep: What\'s the big deal about REM sleep? Well, you know, the increase growth hormone, the ability to repair. We know that our mitochondria, our fat burning engines are so active while we\'re sleeping, so we want to make sure that we have deep, restful REM sleep and again, you need to be breathing through your nose while you\'re doing that. If you catch yourself breathing through your mouth during the day, maybe you\'re at your computer, at your work desk, while you\'re driving, just be a little bit more mindful and cognizant. If you\'re taking a deep breath, like that, it\'s likely that you\'re also breathing through your mouth while you\'re sleeping. Here is the tip. Keep watching because I\'m going to show you exactly how to use the mouth tape, which tape to get because there\'s two different versions. It\'s not that complex but there are two different versions and I\'ve experimented with them both. I find one to be better. 5:00 Which tape to Buy?: Here is a 3M micro pore tape. Here\'s a little tip. I got this from Walgreen\'s and they also sell this on Amazon. It\'s 3M micro pore tape. The stuff that I bought on Amazon was a little narrow. It\'s about half the size. I want to say this is like an inch and a half. I don\'t have a tape measure but it\'s roughly that. I like the wider tape. If you\'re really picky, you can get scissors because the oils on your hands will decrease the adhesiveness of the tape, but here\'s what you do. I\'m not going to be able to talk so you\'re just going to have to watch.'
